Youth and Social Exclusion in the Nordics

Of the nearly five million inhabitants aged 16-29 in the Nordic region, a disturbingly high share “fall outside of the system”. A group of Nordic researchers have asked how we can we prevent young people from dropping out of education, struggle to enter the labor market and loose foothold? Their research show among other that the youth proposes solutions that differ vastly from what professionals, politicians and government officials suggest. The research suggests methods to improve the youth’s participation in the decision-making processes that concern their situation and everyday life. The goal is to create social change and, in the long run, to strengthen the young people’s sense of belonging.
